Our summer vacation took us to a Center Parcs village in the Netherlands with Richard, Wendy and family. An opportunity for the kids to wear themselves out, and for the adults to partake in a bottle or two of wine!

En route, we visited Ypres and spent a couple of nights in Bruges in Belgium

Ypres and Tyne Cot

The Menin Gate in Ypres (or Ieper in Dutch) in the West Flanders province of Belgium is a memorial to more than 54,000 Commonwealth servicemen who died in the Ypres Salient during the Great War, whose graves are not known. Click here to view this Page



Bruges

Laura's faultless navigational skills took us to the door of the Golden Tree Hotel in Bruges (or Brugge), the capital of West Flanders. This gave us a whole day and two evenings to sample all that Bruges had to offer: tremendous medieval architecture, beer and waffles! Click here to view this Page

Making a Splash

Apart from the pool, there were plenty of other opportiunities for the kids to burn up the calories. The climbing wall was particularly impressive. Click here to view this Page



Escape from De Eemhof

Perimeter security wasn't as tight as we'd expected, and we were able to tunnel out of Stalag Luft De Eemhof on a few occasions! Click here to view this Page
