The Miracle on 34th Street was set at Macy's Department Store. Our miracle was two blocks west on the junction with 8th Avenue: the New Yorker Hotel.
Built in 1930, for many years, the New Yorker was the city's largest hotel. It may not quite live up to the standards of its hey-day, but if your budget can stretch far enough for one of the higher-floor suites, you shouldn't be disappointed (and won't need to take out that second mortgage).
We had fabulous views from our rooms on the 25th floor, right above the corner of 8th Avenue and 34rd Street, but breakfast in the 39th floor Skylounge was still worth 'getting up' for.
