Day 5: 17.1 miles. Another long day, and it brought the worst of the weather – coats on and hoods up for most of the day. Apart from dropping down to and then climbing out of the North Tyne valley at Chollerford, the going was pretty easy and pretty unremarkable.
We did enjoy our stop at the tea room at St. Oswald's Hill Head – very 'canny'. I wasn't so keen on my extra strength cider at the Robin Hood Inn – I think that was Peter getting his own back after his disappointment at breakfast!
Not much to see of the wall after Planetrees, but that might have been because of the rain. We were very happy to eventually arrive at Heddon Lodge in Heddon-on-the-Wall, though we did have to strip off in the porch!
Laura and Rachel took advantage of a lift back up the hill to The Swan for dinner. Peter and I had to walk. More decent beer and a good carvery to replenish us.
