Day 4: 13.2 miles. A close second for the 'best day' award. The weather in the morning was the best we had, and the first few miles were truly memorable: Milecastle 39 (near Steel Rigg), Sycamore Gap, and the views over Crag Lough.
By the time we reached Housesteads Fort, Peter was down to a t-shirt and we were all contemplating ice creams from the museum shop. Five miles later, in the car park for Brocolitia Fort and Mithraeum, we were thankful for the hot chocolates from the back of a van!
From there we carried on to our B&B, Walwick Farmhouse, just short of Chollerford. Laura and I lucked out here! We were given the 'honeymoon suite' with a four-poster bed and a bathroom each; Peter and Rachel were in the servants' quarters in the attic. ;-) Dinner was fine, but Peter's sense of victimisation increased at breakfast when he missed out on the porridge ... but not the black pudding.
