New England (July 2010)
Posted by Richard on Tuesday 21st December 2010 at 07:02 PM

Debbie and Bill had invited us to Ottawa for our summer vacation, so as with our previous trip we decided to take in a few sights along the way.

This time we flew into Boston for a few days, before driving up through New England to Canada.

Boston, Massachusetts

First stop was Boston and three nights in the Midtown Hotel on Huntingdon Avenue. We certainly wore out some shoe leather! Click here to view this Page

Boston Harbour and Charlestown

As part of our two-day hop-on / hop-off Boston tour ticket we took a cruise on the harbour. Great views of the waterfront and a chance to visit the Naval Shipyard and Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. Click here to view this Page

The Freedom Trail, Boston

The Freedom Trail is a great way to see some of the historic sites of Boston. Start near the Massachusetts State House and just follow the red brick path! Click here to view this Page

Our bus pass also took us over the Charles River to Cambridge, home of MIT and Harvard University. Click here to view this Page

Plymouth, Massachusetts

On day 4 we picked up a hire car and headed south to Plymouth, where the Pilgrim Fathers stepped ashore from the Mayflower onto American soil in 1620. Click here to view this Page

Quechee Gorge, Vermont
Posted by Richard on Tuesday 21st December 2010 at 07:08 PM

Day 5 took us from Plymouth in Massachusetts to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. One of our stop offs was at Quechee Gorge in Vermont. Stunning scenery and a great walk down to the bottom. Pity we left our swimming kit at the top! :-( Click here to view this Page

Woodstock, Vermont
Posted by Richard on Tuesday 21st December 2010 at 07:08 PM

Next stop was Woodstock. Not the Woodstock (that's in New York state), just a Woodstock. There are others in Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, New Hampshire, Ohio and Virginia, as well as this one in Vermont. Laura insists this is the one she wanted to see. ;-) Click here to view this Page

The White Mountains, New Hampshire

Our next two nights were spent at the Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. OK, so we were in the (less-than-impressive) lodge not the hotel, but, hey! our view was better than their's. Click here to view this Page

Burlington, Vermont
Posted by Richard on Tuesday 21st December 2010 at 07:10 PM

Our original plan had been to spend some time on Lake Champlain with Debbie and Bill, but in the end Burlington became a short stop-over on the journey from the White Moutains to Ottawa. Very nice. Click here to view this Page
